B.Voc. in Software Development course implements the practical exposure in the domain of software and computer science.

The main aim is to provide domain-specific skills and knowledge to the students through the practical approach and academic discussions.

It develops an academic base more. It conducts semester-wise theoretical examinations as develops practical skills through lab modules, experiments, and research.

Vocational studies focus mainly on the practical and application-based areas of any subject.

Qualified candidate can easily get absorbed in the job market as he/she is already seen aware of the functioning and techniques in the practical and industrial level.

These skill-based programs have increased employability prospects. The skill-based curriculum is much better in comparison to a traditional bachelor’s graduate.

UGC Guidelines for B.Voc Courses:

The guidelines by UGC for the B.Voc courses

  • The general education component should adhere to the normal university standards.
  • It should emphasize and offer courses that provide holistic development. It should not exceed 40% of the total curriculum
  • Adequate emphasis should be given to language and communication skills.
  • The curriculum for this program is mapped with job roles in accordance with the National Skills Qualification Framework (NSQF).
  • The course’s curriculum is industry-based and work-integrated.
  • Those Candidates who are unable to complete the 3-year program are not supposed to worry.
  • All those who have successfully completed the first and second year of the course , will be awarded a Diploma and an Advanced Diploma (or equivalent). The certification levels will lead to Diploma/Advanced Diploma/B. Voc. Degree in one or more vocational areas and will be offered under the aegis of the University. This is outlined in Table.

Candidates who have cleared the B.Voc degree program can opt to pursue an M.Voc degree

Eligibility for admission in B.Voc.

  • 10+2 education completed in any stream from a recognized educational Board.
  • A minimum aggregate score of 50% (45% for SC/ST/OBC candidates) at the 10+2 level.
  • Candidates not having any Supplementary or Compartment in any of the subject/subjects at 10+2 or equivalent level are eligible to take admission
  • Students who have an interest in skill-based studies of any subject.
  • Those who have studied computers at class 12th /Diploma level.
  • Candidates who have a career as a software developer in mind.
  • It aims at higher studies in the domain can opt for the course.

Admission Process

  • Based on the performance in a (JIMS Entrance Test) –JET entrance examination, conducted mostly at the institutional level, followed by a round of personal interview. 
  • The round of interviews is for assessing the candidate’s general aptitude for the course.
  • Candidates selected on a merit basis were given the opportunity to take admission.

Assessment Scheme:

There are two Assessments for B.Voc. Software Development Program, External Assessment, and Internal Assessment.

  • External Assessment
    • The Skill component of the course will be assessed and certified by the IT & ITES Sector Skill Council.
    • The credits for the skill component will be awarded in terms of NSQF level certification.
  • Internal Assessment
    • Internal Assessment is carried out as per the Mahatma Gandhi University regulations.
