Over the years, one dilemma that I have seen in the mind of a lot of youngsters or students who want to pursue a career in Hotels is what is Hospitality Management & is Hotel Management.

So, here I would try& explain the difference between the two so that it becomes easy for one to decide. There is always confusion between Hospitality Management& Hotel Management as they both have similar academic requirements and both are part of the travel and tourism industry. But, there are some prime differences between the two sectors.

To understand better, one has to know that Hotel management purely focuses on the hotel industry and the job opportunities are only within the hotel sector, with managerial jobs in hotels, housekeeping, and operations management. Hospitality management, on the other hand, is a tree with different branches.  let’s take for instance,  industries including food and beverage, travel, accommodation, event management, facility management, and many more. There are various managerial job opportunities in this sector, such as working as a casino manager, resort manager, restaurant manager, or event organizer-the list is endless as are the opportunities. Hospitality management involves all the tasks and aspects associated with managing a hospitality business& the main focus of these businesses is welcoming customers and providing them with pleasant and memorable experiences.

To be a part of Hospitality Management, one would only require a diploma, but in order to earn a higher salary at a higher-level job, it is best & always suggested to get a degree. AHospitality Management Degree offers general education courses also with core hospitality subjects covered in the classes. A Bachelor’s degree, on the other hand, will take anywhere from 3- 4 years to complete and covers hospitality management, accounting, and finance courses.

To get a clear picture of what Hospitality management operations involve, we need to understand &learn the implementation of resources, materials, equipment, and technology. As an operations person, you are expected to develop and deliver services or goods to customers based on their needs. In operations management, one’s role is to handle different strategic problems, including the utilization of project management methods and determining & implementing in all aspects of the organization’s structure. Other responsibilities include inventory levels management, raw material acquisition, materials handling, quality control, and work-in-process levels. As a hospitality professional, your task is to oversee various departments in your resort or hotel, such as housekeeping, concierge, restaurant, spa, budgeting, conferences, reception, maintenance, and guest services. It is your job to ensure that everything runs smoothly in all the departments. Although one’s duties will depend on which sector one chooses to finally work in as wide a range of job opportunities are available in these sectors. Some examples of the hospitality careers one can pursue after getting a degree in this field are Resort or hotel manager, Restaurant manager, Food &Beverage Manager, Catering Manager, Event planner, Chef, Concierge, Marketing, sales and media manager, financial or accounting managers& many more.
